Awards were presented in a wide range of categories, including Student of the Year at each campus, Apprentice of the Year, Teamwork and Leadership, Bravery, and the Chair’s Award.
Winners were not only recognised for their academic success, but for their resilience and outstanding personal growth. They represented a range of subject areas, studying courses and qualifications at different levels and educational stages.
Together with the winners and their friends and families, MP for Bromley and Biggin Hill, Peter Fortune attended the event, alongside Local Authority representatives, employers and many other valued stakeholders.
An inspirational keynote speech was delivered by Anthony Okereke, Leader of the Royal Borough of Greenwich and former LSEC student. He spoke about his own career journey – and how his time at Bromley College (and as President of the Student Union) supported his remarkable journey into politics.
"As someone who studied at this college, it is an honour to return and celebrate the achievements of today’s students.
“Their success stories are a testament to the power of perseverance and the transformative nature of education, as I know from my own personal experience. Every winner here has a bright future ahead, congratulations to them all.”
Anthony then added:
“Don’t be afraid of celebrating your wins, do it boldly and with those you love.”
Anthony was also conferred with a College Fellowship, along with three other former students – Joshua Holland, Naomi Spence and Joanne Bell. This was in recognition of the contribution they all continue to make to the LSEC community by supporting and inspiring students. College Chair, David Eastgate conferred the four new Fellows.
The evening of celebration was opened by Group CEO and Principal Dr Sam Parrett CBE, who said:
"We are delighted to be celebrating the remarkable achievements of our students. As a college deeply rooted in our communities, we are proud of the work we do to transform lives through education – and are committed to helping people achieve their career and life ambitions.
“Congratulations to our winners for this well-deserved recognition and thank you to all our special guests and valued stakeholders. By working and standing together, we can have a far greater impact both in, and beyond, our college community – which tonight’s success stories absolutely reflect.”
As part of the proceedings, three former student presidents took part in a panel discussion, led by Shakira Martin who is now Head of Student Engagement at LSEC. Together with Ruby Davis, (Student President and Governor for the 2023/24) and Nicole Mundondo (current Student President and Governor), they spoke about their experiences at the college. They shared their motivation for getting involved in the Student Union and the positive impact it has had on their skills and their confidence.
Guests also enjoyed exceptional performances from London College of Performing Arts’ students, showcasing their talents in speech and singing.
