We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this objective and ask the same of our students, their parents/carers, contractors working at our sites and all visitors.

  • Senior Safeguarding Officer/Manager Each campus has a Senior Safeguarding Officer or Manager who works closely with vulnerable students and external agencies, for example, Social Services or Youth Offending Team, to ensure students feel safe and supported whilst they study with us. They have a vital role in providing continuity of care for our students throughout their course
  • Duty system We run a duty system here, and there is always someone on duty who can speak to students about any concerns they have about their safety or that of others – the name and photo of the person on duty is on display in the reception area at each campus. In the evening, the duty manager takes up this role and oversees the duty safeguarding officers during the day
  • Looked after children and young care leavers. Vibeke Fussing is the College’s designated teacher for the care of experienced students, working closely with the local authorities’ virtual schools and acting as the student's advocate in promoting their educational achievement

Our commitments…

  • Students learn in a safe and secure environment.
  • Our students must have the confidence to come forward to speak or act if they, or someone else, is at risk of harm.
  • Our shared responsibility for safeguarding and looking out for each other is a key message at induction and through our tutorial and enrichment programmes.
  • We respect people’s privacy and will only share information with permission or where necessary to ensure someone’s safety.
  • We work closely with local Social Care teams to ensure that looked-after children receive help.
  • We promote the British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect, and tolerance for those with different faiths and beliefs.
  • We work with Local Authorities and law enforcement agencies to ensure all our students have access to appropriate protection from the risks associated with extremist views.
  • We regularly train all staff in safeguarding practices and make students aware of their rights and responsibilities and how to find the help they need.
