Outside of the Bexley Campus

Hundreds of students at London South East Colleges are celebrating successful GCSE results in Maths and English today, enabling them to progress on pathways to successful careers.

This year’s GCSE results have shown an increase in achievement rates, reflecting the hard work of students and the continued dedication of the teaching staff.

BTEC results were also up significantly, with students gaining exceptional outcomes across these Level 2 qualifications.

The College, with campuses across Bromley, Bexley, Greenwich and Lambeth, supported students, (16–18-year-olds and adults) to take their maths and/or English GCSEs this year, having not achieved the qualification/s at school.

Every young person not achieving at least a Grade 4 (formerly a C) in maths and English at school, is required by law to resit the exam. This year saw record numbers of resits across the country, as grading returned to pre-pandemic levels in 2023.

London South East Colleges offers students the chance to re-sit these key GCSE exams while undertaking their vocational qualification, in a range of subjects from electrical and business to hairdressing, beauty and public services.

Students at London South East Colleges come from a wide variety of backgrounds, with many facing barriers to their education. The College has implemented a range of support measures to help students succeed, including targeted tutoring, mental health support, and flexible learning options, all of which have contributed to today’s success.

Asfa Sohail, Executive Principal and Chief Learning Officer at London South East Colleges, says:

"I am extremely proud of our students’ hard work and the dedication of our staff – both of which are reflected in our positive Level 2 results.

“Many of our students have demonstrated real resilience when re-taking these exams having overcome various challenges. Their success means they can now progress to the next level of study and ultimately to their chosen career.

“Not everyone chooses to, or is able, to take a linear path in education. We offer everyone the opportunity to succeed, whatever stage they are at in their lives and whatever prior experience of education they have had.

“Huge congratulations to our learners today, we are very proud and wish them all the very best for their future success.”
