If you would like to study at university but left school without the qualifications you need, then this Access to HE course could be for you. Each year, over 20,000 Access to HE students apply for a degree course at a UK university.

This course will help you get the qualifications you need to study criminology, or a related course, at university. The qualification will provide you with a broad understanding of crime and the criminal justice system, whilst also covering topics such as criminal investigation, forensics, social exclusion and victimology.

    The course is broken down into manageable units focusing on giving you the study skills and knowledge required for university, perfect for those who have been out of education for some time.

    Units include:

    • Psychology of crime, social psychology
    • Sociology of crime deviance and poverty
    • The media and crime
    • Forensics
    • Crime and social exclusion
  • Entry Requirements

    Requirements:

    • You must be aged 19 plus
    • Proficiency in written and spoken English
    • GCSEs - grades A* - C / 9-4 or Functional Skills Level 2 or recognised non-UK GCSE equivalencies in English and maths preferred; however, each applicant will be considered on an individual basis
    • Selection by interview, initial screening, literacy and numeracy tests
  • Assessment

    Assessment is on-going and developed through a portfolio of course work A large proportion of your work will be essay or assignment based but you can also expect exams, presentations and project work

    Higher National Diploma or degree course at university

    Access is an intensive study programme; you must be completely committed to hard work and are required to maintain 100% attendance You are expected to self-study for a minimum of 10 extra hours a week to manage strict work deadlines and to cope with the workload
