What you will study
All studies are directly relevant to the creative industries, and the knowledge and skills learnt on this course provide pathways to university, apprenticeships or employment within the arts. The focus in the first year is exploring and developing Art and Design skills. It will give you the knowledge, understanding and skills that you need to prepare you for higher education, continuing education or employment. The qualifications also provide career development opportunities for those already in work.
The modules studied in the first year are:
- Skills Development (including portfolio development)
- Creative Project (responding to a brief, from ideas to final outcome) The skills gained over the year include informing ideas, problem solving, technical skills, professional practice and communication

Entry Requirements
4 GCSEs at grade 9-4 (A*-C), including English and Maths, or a Level 2 qualification (Merit or Distinction) in a related subject. Note: for skills-based qualifications you might need the skills at Level 2 in order to enrol onto the Level 3.

Assessment
All modules are graded as Pass, Merit or Distinction. You must pass each module to achieve the qualification at the end of the course. All evidence produced for assessment is based on practical portfolios of work, there are no examinations with this qualification.

Moving Forward
On successful completion of this course you can progress onto the second year, the Pearson BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art and Design.

Cost and Loans
There will be an initial contribution of £65 for the year to cover all the resources required on the course to be paid at enrolment. Trips will incur additional costs.
