This is a one year course. During the course you will be introduced to and have the opportunity to experiment with and learn about a variety of Art and Design Materials, Techniques and Processes. You will learn about different areas of Art and Design such as drawing, 3D and Graphic Design. You will learn about the work of other Artists, through research projects. You will use the skills you have learnt to complete your own Art projects and develop your Artistic interests. You will have the opportunity to visit current exhibitions, take part in workshops and work experience relevant to the creative industries. After 1 year you can progress onto level 3 courses.

  • What you will study

    You will be introduced to a range of Artistic materials, techniques and processes and build on your existing skills. You will take part in practical workshops and independent projects. You will learn about the work of other Creative practitioners and the variety of different disciplines within the creative industries. You will take part in exciting work experience opportunities.

    Throughout the course you will build on:

    • the ability to learn independently
    • the ability to actively investigate and problem solve
    • practical and personal communication skills. BTEC qualifications provide a vocational context in which learners can develop the knowledge and skills required for further study at Level 3, such as: teamwork, project work, presentation skills, analytical skills, creative development, developing and monitoring progress towards personal aims.

  • Entry Requirements

    4 GCSEs at grades 9-3 (A*-D) (English and maths desirable) or a Level 1 qualification.

  • Assessment

    You will be assessed across 4 areas: Skills Development, Art and Design Project, Personal Development, Responding to a Creative brief

  • Moving Forward

    An opportunity to progress to level 3 courses in the same or related subjects dependent on achieving a Merit grade and GCSE in English
