Preparing to Teach

Embark on a five-week journey to become a Teaching Assistant (TA) with our comprehensive introductory course. Designed to prepare you for further training, this course covers essential areas such as safeguarding and supporting the well-being and development of children and young people.

This course is also suitable if you want to work with young people with special educational needs, as the course gives an introduction to working with pupils with Autism, ADHD and mental health needs.

  • What you will study
    • Child and Young Persons Development: Gain insights into the physical, emotional, and educational needs of children and young people.
    • Wellbeing Support: Learn strategies to support the mental and emotional well-being of students.
    • Practical Skills: Develop practical skills for working or volunteering in schools.
    • An introduction to working with pupils with Autism, ADHD and mental health needs.
  • Moving Forward

    • This course provides the first steps in starting a career journey as a Teaching Assistant or Support Assistant in schools or colleges.

    • Further Study, including the Supporting Teaching and Learning courses at levels 2 and 3 and Early Years programmes.
  • Duration
    • 6 hours a day for 5 weeks, daytime delivery Monday to Friday.
