This course is suitable for applicants who are unsure which vocational route they would like to pursue as a career and/or need to further develop English, Maths and ICT. The aim of this programme is to explore a range of vocational subjects and to develop the skills and knowledge required to pursue further education in a vocational subject at Entry/Level 1 and then beyond.

  • What you will study

    The course is delivered over one year and learners are required to achieve all components of the course to achieve and progress onto their chosen pathway. The main components include:

    • Functional Skills (English, Maths, ICT)
    • Personal Development, Behaviour and Welfare
    • Employability Skills
    • Work Experience Vocational tasters will include:

    • Catering and Customer Service (compulsory option)
    • Media and Art Learners will be required to develop an understanding of vocational subject knowledge whilst at the same time developing their skills in English, Maths and ICT. In addition, learners will develop employability skills through the personal and social development and employment skills aspect of the programme. All learners will do 36 hours of work experience as part of their course.

    The course will be supported by appropriate educational visits and work experience in which all learners will be expected to participate. All learners receive regular tutorial support.

  • Entry Requirements

    You must have:

    • Successful Initial Assessment of English at Entry 3 and Maths at Entry 2 and interview.
    • Evidence of excellent attendance and timekeeping at school. Applicants will need to supply an Educational, Health and Care Plan or similar evidence and a report from their most recent school or training establishment
  • Assessment

    Assessment is continuous and consists of assessment of learner work within their portfolios, observation of practical skills and successful completion of three functional skills exams at a level appropriate to the learner. The course team will review learners’ progress throughout the year in relation to the course, pastoral, English and Maths targets.

  • Moving Forward

    Students will be required to achieve heir accreditation, show commitment to their course, and appropriate behavior throughout the year in order to progress onto a higher level vocational course or employability study programme
