Hairdressing Levels 2 and 3
Chris Becks from Bromley came to London South East Colleges back in 2015 to try and improve herself and her career opportunities. Starting with a level 1 course in English and maths she then qualified for her hairdressing Level 2 progressing to level 3.
Leaving in 2018 with a fabulous set of grades and the offer of a job in a nearby salon, she went on to acquire many new work-related skills, customer services know-how and picked up the knowledge of how a real business operated.
Last year she decided to go it alone as a professional freelance hair stylist running her home salon and mobile business - Hair By Chrisbecks. She is also fast becoming quite a celebrity having launched a YouTube channel in order to showcase her work and create step-by-step tutorials in a whole range of hair techniques.
Chris says:“It has been quite a journey for me since I started at College. I loved the whole experience and have been pretty impressed with the care and advice given to me right from the beginning. I wanted to jump straight in and start at level 2 but the tutors thought I needed more help with my English and maths first.
“After this I was free to get creative and concentrate on what I really love - styling and colouring hair. I spent the next two years perfecting my techniques and soon became the professional I’d always wanted to be.
“During lockdown, I provided weekly tutorials to College students working from home and providing them with a bit of extra support.
“The next stage for me is to establish my very own high street salon and hairdressing school and build from there. None of this would have been possible without taking that first step into College. I’ll never regret it and can’t thank my tutors enough for their amazing tutoring, guidance and inspiration.”
